In 1993, progressive closing of roads in Pustý and Suchý žleb (Desert and Dry Valley) began and visitors of Punkva Caves started using public transport. Extensive traffic pressure, noise, smog and confusion in Pustý and Suchý žleb disappeared.
Public transport is realized by two road-trains. Their timetable is synchronized with entry times to Punkevní jeskyně (Punkva Caves). Continuing cableway (get into operation on 6th May 1995) is connecting Punkva Caves and Macocha Abyss. It is also good alternative to all who can not or do not want to go there on foot.
Moravský kras (Moravian Karst) is connected by dense network of well-marked bike and tourist tracks. There are many nature foot trails and info boards around. These tables inform all visitors about local nature, historical and technical interests.
The Protected Landscape Area (PLA) Moravian Karst has about 92 km2. In summer, we recommend to make a reservation for tickets to caves. Most exposed parts of PLA, valleys called Pustý žleb and Suchý žleb are closed to all car traffic. Instead, there is an ecological public transport – road-trains and cableway.
The Moravian Karst area is literally interlaced with many tourist foot trails. One of them, the Green Mark, goes from railway station in Blansko to Skalní mlýn (Rock Mill). There is also Yellow Mark coming here from Sloup (Sloup-Šošůvka Caves). Near the Upper Bridge at Macocha Abyss, this Yellow Mark joins the Red one coming down to Rudice.
The part from Skalní mlýn (Rock Mill) to Punkevní jeskyně (Punkva Caves) is connected by the ecological road-train. From the Punkva Caves train station the cableway goes up to Macocha Abyss Plateau. The train and cableway run in connection with entries to Punkva Caves. You can buy entrance tickets to caves and fare for ecological transport at Information Center in Skalní mlýn (Rock Mill). Another way to go there is using coach from Blansko-railway station to Skalní mlýn.
